Age in cask

Time is the one thing no one can source faster.

Drag, or use the arrow keys, to move through the years.

Macallan 18 Sherry Oak and Yamazaki 18. The age most collectors begin with. For Macallan, label generation matters as much as the number.

Spirit laid down today would reach 18 years in 2044.

What happens after you enquire

How a searchunfolds

Every private search follows the same five stages. Click through them, or watch it run.

Stage 1 of 5 · BRIEFED

The brief

A private conversation: the bottle, the edition or vintage, your budget range and your timing.

Verified before it is offered

The Method

Four stages, in order, for every bottle we recommend or buy. The full method is set out in our authentication guide.

  1. Stage 1: Provenance review

We begin with the story, before the bottle. Invoices, auction records, storage history and the chain of ownership.

Gaps are recorded and explained to you. If the story does not hold together, the right answer is often to decline.

  2. Stage 2: Physical inspection

Fill level, capsule and closure, label print and paper, glass, liquid and box, each compared against verified examples of the same edition.

Most fakes are genuine bottles, refilled. So the evidence is usually somewhere other than the glass.

  3. Stage 3: Edition and security checks

We confirm the bottle matches its stated release, market and label generation, and check any security features that release should carry.

For Japanese whisky in the United States, we check that the import paperwork makes sense.

  4. Stage 4: Final sign-off

Nothing is offered or bought until every check is clear and the findings are written into the Provenance File.

If a bottle fails any stage, we say so plainly and do not proceed.

Sell or consign

A quieter wayto sell.

No public listing, no photographs of your collection online. We assess the bottle, tell you plainly what we see, and you choose the route.

The market has turned. Rare whisky had a remarkable run, and many bottles were bought on the belief that prices only rise. Since the 2022 peak, auction prices have fallen sharply, and we now see bottles selling at auction for less than their owners paid at retail. Whisky behaves like any other risk asset: when buyers grow cautious, the bottles bought for their scarcity fall furthest and take longest to recover. We do not expect a quick rebound. If you are holding high-value bottles in the hope of a return to peak prices, ask whether waiting is a strategy or simply a risk. A free assessment shows you exactly where your bottles stand today.

From the founder

A note from Darren Solanki

I was born in London and spent about twenty years as a senior technology executive. In 2016 I took over Exotic Car Society and formed it as a company. I broker whisky and wine, and Scotch Racer is how I do it: privately, by enquiry.

My rule is simple. A bottle is offered only when its story checks out. When it does not, I say so, and we walk away together.

Questions, answered plainly

Frequently asked

How do you verify a bottle?

Every bottle passes four stages before it is offered: a provenance review, a physical inspection against verified examples of the same edition, edition and security checks, and a final sign-off once every check is clear. If a bottle fails any stage, we say so plainly and do not proceed.

Do you charge for an assessment?

No. The first assessment is free and carries no obligation. We value your bottle against recent hammer prices from leading whisky auction houses such as Whisky Auctioneer, Unicorn Auctions and Whisky Hammer, cross-checked against Whiskybase, and show you the comparables.

How quickly can you buy my bottle?

If you choose our fast offer, we make a fixed offer of 20–25% below current market value, based on the median of recent comparable auction results. There is no haggling, bottles of any value are considered by arrangement, and funds are arranged before anything moves. The offer becomes final once we have received, inspected and authenticated the bottle.

Do you handle fine wine?

Yes. We source and place Pétrus, Le Pin, Grand Cru Burgundy and Napa cult Cabernet. With wine, storage history and provenance carry particular weight, and we check both before anything is offered.

How is pricing set?

We do not publish prices. Each bottle is assessed on its own: edition, condition, provenance, recent comparable sales and current demand. We show you the comparables behind any figure.

Where do you operate?

Miami and London, with clients worldwide subject to local law.

How does membership work?

By enquiry. There is no public catalogue and no queue. Tell us what you are looking for, or what you hold, and we take it from there privately.

Are you affiliated with any distillery?

No. Scotch Racer is independent and not affiliated with any distillery, château or brand, including those named on this site.
